How to Freeze Columns in Airtable for Better Data Analysis
Imagine you're working in Airtable with an Employee table containing multiple columns—Name, Email, Age, and more.
Suppose you want to check the emails of employees who are currently working remotely. You scroll to the right to find the Remote column, but in doing so, you lose sight of the Email column.
This forces you to scroll back and forth to match the Email with the Remote status, which is very cumbersome, especially with a large dataset.
To solve this problem, Airtable allows you to freeze important columns. Freezing a column keeps it visible on the left side of your table, even as you scroll to the right.
This feature ensures that key information remains in view, making data reading and analysis more efficient.
How to Freeze Columns in Airtable
Freezing columns in Airtable is straightforward. Here's how you can do it:
-
Navigate to the Airtable table where you want to freeze columns.
-
Identify your primary field, typically the first column in your table.
-
Place your cursor over the vertical line immediately to the right of the primary field's header. A small blue drag handle will appear.
-
Click and hold the drag handle, then move it to the right, passing over the columns you wish to freeze. For instance, if you want to keep both the Name and Email columns visible, drag the handle past the Email column.
-
Once you've selected the desired columns, release the mouse button. The columns to the left of the drag handle are now frozen and will remain visible as you scroll to the right.
To unfreeze columns, simply hover over the divider again, drag it back to the left, and release. This will return the columns to their normal, scrollable state.
So next time when you're going through extensive data, remember to freeze your key columns for a more efficient experience.
